Slow broadband? Elon Musk’s SpaceX could boost speeds in YOUR home

Ernest Doku, broadband expert at Uswitch.com, said: “The technology is improving all the time, and with big players like Starlink entering the UK market, connections are only going to get faster and more reliable.

“Satellite broadband offers hope to residents in rural areas who have struggled to get a decent connection from traditional providers…Many households are still on ADSL connections and enduring slow speeds unnecessarily, unaware that in many cases they could upgrade to fibre broadband and still save themselves money.”

Starlink already has bases in Buckinghamshire and Cornwall, but a proposed new hub on the Isle of Man promises to give it coverage across the entire UK.

How can you sign up? At the moment, it’s only open to customers taking part in a beta test. But word is that, once available more widely, Starlink will charge customers £89 a month as well as a £439 setup fee to cover the satellite dish. For that, you’ll get around 150 megabits a second, which could rise to 200 megabits soon. The only hitch compared to regular broadband is that bad weather, especially heavy rain and wind, can cause outages.
